Stephen Colbert<\/strong>\u00a0left fans stunned when he announced that CBS has chosen to permanently end\u00a0The Late Show<\/em>\u00a0in May 2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just the end of our show,\u201d Colbert explained to his audience on the Thursday, July 17, episode of the top-performing late-night chat fest. \u201cI\u2019m not being replaced. This is all just going away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the bombshell announcement, other television hosts flooded social media to share their opinions on the controversial decision.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Fallon<\/strong>, who hosts\u00a0The Tonight Show<\/em>, wrote he was \u201cshocked\u201d that this was happening.<\/p>\n

\u201cStephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I\u2019d ride this out with him for years to come,\u201d he continued in his Instagram Story. \u201cI\u2019m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30. Taking to his own Instagram Stories,\u00a0Seth Meyers<\/strong>\u00a0chimed in, \u201cFor as great a comedian and host he is, Stephen Colbert is an even better person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to miss having him on TV every night, but I\u2019m excited he can no longer use the excuse that he\u2019s \u2018too busy to hang out\u2019 with me,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

When the clip was shared on the official\u00a0Instagram account\u00a0for\u00a0The Late Show<\/em>, other celebrities flocked to the comments section to share words of love and support for Colbert, 61, as they mourned the end of the popular series.<\/p>\n

In an official statement, CBS and Paramount executives claimed that the cancellation of the show was \u201cpurely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop\u201d of late-night television and that it was \u201cnot related in any way to the show\u2019s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,\u201d per\u00a0AP News<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Late Show<\/em>\u00a0began in 1993 with\u00a0David Letterman<\/strong>, who hosted the series until his retirement in 2015.
