Full story here \ud83d\udc47"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Norah O\u2019Donnell said farewell to \u201cCBS This Morning\u201d Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O\u2019Donnell, 45, has been a co-anchor of the broadcast since 2012.&nbsp;She will join&nbsp;\u201cCBS Evening News,\u201d&nbsp;as the anchor and managing editor, replacing Jeff Glor. In addition, she will serve as lead anchor for political events and contribute to \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2024\/07\/30\/23\/87962969-13690647-Norah_O_Donnell_has_quit_CBS_Evening_News_after_five_years_leadi-a-12_1722380101097.jpg\" alt=\"Norah O'Donnell QUITS CBS Evening News for new role after 12 years as network anchor as she pens emotional farewell letter | Daily Mail Online\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During her on-air departure, the morning show aired a video that&nbsp;included a montage of&nbsp;O\u2019Donnell\u2019s interviews&nbsp;\u2013 including snippets of chats with&nbsp;the&nbsp;Dalai Lama, Prince Harry and James Taylor \u2013&nbsp;and warm wishes from her parents and kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCan\u2019t wait to have a before-school-breakfast,\u201d her son Henry told her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellow journalists like Anderson Cooper and Robin Roberts also shared kind words, as did the hosts of evening news programs for NBC and ABC, Lester Holt and David Muir, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The compilation moved O\u2019Donnell to tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe best is yet to come.&nbsp;I think that\u2019s for all of us at CBS News,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acknowledging her co-hosts,&nbsp;she added: \u201cWe\u2019ve made news, we\u2019ve been in the news, but we\u2019ve also made friendships. This is the greatest team on television.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turning to the crew, she extended her appreciation. \u201cYou know how much I love all of you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat you should know is we are cheering you on,\u201d said Gayle King,&nbsp;who will remain on \u201cThis Morning\u201d with new hosts&nbsp;Anthony Mason, a senior national correspondent and CBS veteran, and Tony Dokoupil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nickiswift.com\/img\/gallery\/norah-odonnell-of-cbs-news-dramatic-transformation\/she-was-tapped-to-anchor-the-cbs-evening-news-1727903166.jpg\" alt=\"Norah O'Donnell Of CBS News' Dramatic Transformation\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, news broke that&nbsp;she and John Dickerson would be leaving the program&nbsp;as part of a&nbsp;series of sweeping changes at the network.&nbsp;Dickerson has been tapped for \u201c60 Minutes\u201d and will also have a role in election specials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the news was revealed on \u201cThis Morning,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said she would put all she had into her new position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was looking through some things that Walter Cronkite said, and he said, \u2018I can\u2019t imagine a person becoming a success in life without giving everything they\u2019ve got.\u2019 And so I\u2019m gonna give&nbsp;this everything I\u2019ve got.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O\u2019Donnell&nbsp;will be only the third female solo anchor of a network evening newscast, following ABC\u2019s Diane Sawyer and former CBS anchor Katie Couric,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes mark the first big moves by Susan Zirinsky, who became CBS News\u2019 first female president&nbsp;in March. (A fourth \u201cMorning\u201d co-anchor, Bianna Golodryga, was relieved of her duties in April&nbsp;after a six-month stint&nbsp;and exercised an option to exit&nbsp;the network).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1229365425-e1649496827573.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all\" alt=\"Norah O'Donnell extends CBS News contract: reports\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>She is aiming to reverse the fortunes of CBS\u2019 cellar-dwelling \u201cEvening News\u201d and \u201cThis Morning\u201d&nbsp;telecasts, which for years have&nbsp;lagged behind NBC and ABC in a distant third place, even as CBS leads them in overall primetime audience.&nbsp;Ratings for both broadcasts have suffered in the wake of recent changes:&nbsp;Charlie Rose\u2019s 2017&nbsp;exit from \u201cThis Morning\u201d&nbsp;in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations, and&nbsp;the&nbsp;naming of Glor, also in 2017, to succeed Scott Pelley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Contributing: Gary Levin<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Norah O\u2019Donnell said farewell to \u201cCBS This Morning\u201d Thursday.
