{"id":1850,"date":"2025-03-14T16:43:43","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T16:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insightflowmedia.com\/us-added-to-human-rights-watchlist-over-trump-moves-amazing\/"},"modified":"2025-03-14T16:44:22","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T16:44:22","slug":"us-added-to-human-rights-watchlist-over-trump-moves-amazing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/insightflowmedia.com\/?p=1850","title":{"rendered":"U.S. ADDED TO WATCHLIST: CIVICUS, a global nonprofit that advocates for civil rights protections, added the United States to its human rights watchlist, saying &#8220;the Trump administration seems hellbent on dismantling the system of checks and balances which are the pillars of a democratic society.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The United States has been added to CIVICUS\u2019s monitor list of potential human rights threats, a move the global nonprofit says is directly linked to President Donald Trump\u2019s actions since his return to the White House in January.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1012\" height=\"703\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351.png 1012w, https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351-768x534.png 768w\" src=\"https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351.png\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1012px) 100vw, 1012px\" class=\"wp-image-2855 lazyload\"\/><noscript><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1012\" height=\"703\" src=\"https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2855\" srcset=\"https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351.png 1012w, https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/images1.icusocial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-351-768x534.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1012px) 100vw, 1012px\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cRestrictive executive orders, unjustifiable institutional cutbacks, and intimidation tactics through threatening pronouncements by senior officials in the administration are creating an atmosphere to chill democratic dissent, a cherished American ideal,\u201d CIVICUS interim co-secretary general Mandeep Tiwana\u00a0said in a statement. \u201cThe Trump administration seems hellbent on dismantling the system of checks and balances which are the pillars of a democratic society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. joins the Democratic Republic of Congo, Italy, Pakistan and Serbia in CIVICUS\u2019s first watch updates for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGross abuses of executive power raise serious concerns over the freedoms of peaceful assembly, expression and association,\u201d\u00a0the group wrote\u00a0of the U.S. rating.<\/p>\n<p>CIVICUS specifically pointed to Trump\u2019s push for mass\u00a0firings of federal workers, the dismantling of\u00a0foreign aid programs, his treatment\u00a0of the media\u00a0and efforts across the country to tamp down\u00a0pro-Palestinian protests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans across the political spectrum are appalled by the undemocratic actions of the current administration,\u201d Tiwana said.<\/p>\n<p>According to CIVICUS, the monitor list \u201cdraws attention to countries where there is a serious decline in respect for civic space, based on an assessment by CIVICUS Monitor research findings, our research partners and consultations with activists on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCIVICUS calls upon these governments to do everything in their power to end the ongoing crackdowns immediately and ensure that perpetrators are held to account,\u201d the organization said in its\u00a0news release on the update.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. is\u00a0among 42 countries\u00a0that CIVICUS rates as \u201cnarrowed\u201d on freedom, which is the group\u2019s second tier after \u201copen\u201d and used to signify countries where citizens face occasional violations of basic rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClosed,\u201d \u201crepressed,\u201d and \u201cobstructed\u201d are the most restrictive tiers.
