The sterile scent of disinfectants lingered in the air, and the rhythmic beeping of monitors filled the silence. For Michael Strahan‘s daughter, Isabella Strahan, those sounds became an unwelcome soundtrack to her life — a constant reminder that while her world had come to a screeching halt, everyone else’s kept spinning.

Lying in bed, weakened and weary, Isabella would scroll through her phone, watching her twin sister, Sophia, bask in the sun on a vacation. Friends posted pictures from campus parties, football games, and spring break adventures—snapshots of a life Isabella once knew. She should’ve been there, laughing with her friends, finding her way through college like every other freshman. Instead, she was fighting for her life.

But if there’s one thing the Strahan family knows well, it’s resilience — and Isabella’s story is a powerful testament to that. “I heard the other day that there were rumors that I dropped out of school to pursue modeling,” shared Isabella. The 20-year-old has just come back after winning her battle against cancer to continue her life at USC. In October 2023, the Strahan family could not get their thoughts together when they learned that Isabella was fighting medulloblastoma. She was only 18 at that time. “She was actually in danger of having a seizure, having a stroke, and potentially dying,” recalled Isabella’s doctor in her documentary. Last year, in July 2024, Isabella’s doctors declared that she was cancer-free.

But the journey has not been easy. From intense radiation therapies to endless chemo sessions. Now that Isabella looks back at it, she has so many things to say. And Isabella has been doing just that. She’s been sharing her story on her vlogs, social media, and with the media when they reach out to her. “At the beginning of my journey, I was not so positive. I only kind of thought about the worst things that could happen. And I think that’s pretty detrimental,” she shared with People. Recently, the 20-year-old did a podcast, Beyond the Battlefront with Noor Hassan, to talk more about her journey and how it affected her life at school. Noor is herself a cancer survivor and is currently a high school student.

Recalling how she felt when the world around her was moving at a faster pace while she was stuck, Isabella shared how it initially affected her. “I’d just be looking at everyone’s stories, doing everything.” Isabella shared how watching her twin sister, Sophia, take vacations during spring would give her FOMO. “I think the biggest part was seeing my sister, like, ‘Oh, she’s in the Bahamas on spring break and doing all this fun stuff.”

Well, when you’re kind of stuck in the same place and see everyone doing their thing. It’s natural to feel that way. Isabella had to leave school during her freshman year. So it was obvious she would feel like she was missing out while others her age continued with life. “I was like, ‘Well, I’m sitting in a house.’ I think it was more just like not even seeing people. Just knowing everyone’s life continued, right?“

But that was not the only thing she had to deal with.

Isabella Strahan opens up about cancer’s emotional toll

“And we’re back…,” captioned Isabella as she posted her vacation pictures from the Bahamas back in December. After winning the battle and walking the victory aisle with confetti under her feet, the 20-year-old has been busy getting back to her life. Whether it’s returning to USC or watching football games, Isabella is catching up on things quickly.

But those nine long months in the hospital bed were a nightmare for her. Talking about her weight struggles during treatment, Isabella shared, “I lost a lot of weight during my treatments, which was bound to happen because my appetite was out… But one thing I wish I did was move.” She feels there were a few things she could have done differently.

“I know it’s super hard at times and I did not want to move. But I wish I just made myself walk, even 100 steps a day, because I lost so much of my leg muscle,” added Isabella. And now that she is back at USC, she couldn’t be happier. But things have changed in her circle. Isabella shared how everyone has found their groups and circles, and now she has to make new friends. “It’s definitely interesting, like, now being back at school, seeing all the friend groups that formed when I wasn’t there. But honestly, it’s an adjustment because, of course, I was gone for most of the year,” she shared.

It was like she could almost relate to Matthew Broderick’s character in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when he says, ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.‘ But it’s not like you can never make up for lost time. Isabella is only 20 years old, and she has already proven she’s a warrior. Michael Strahan’s little daughter isn’t just a cancer survivor – she’s so much more than that.
