Late night host\u00a0Stephen Colbert<\/span>\u00a0received a standing ovation at the\u00a0Emmy<\/span>\u00a0Awards Sunday night \u2013 two months after CBS announced it would be\u00a0canceling his show.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 61-year-old comedian\u00a0accepted the award for Best Talk Series<\/span>, which his show won over The Daily Show and\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel<\/span>\u00a0Live!<\/p>\n

Despite the cancellation he thanked the network and revealed his hope for the network to continue the show as he said: \u2018I want to thank CBS were giving us the privilege to be part of the late-night tradition, which I hope continues long after we are no longer\u00a0doing this show<\/span>.\u2019<\/p>\n

He thanked the crew for the chat show and his entire family before ending on a sweet, positive, and patriotic note.<\/p>\n

Stephen said: \u2018I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong, be brave, and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor! Woo!\u2019<\/p>\n

Colbert had also received a standing ovation earlier in the night, when took the stage at the Peacock Theater in\u00a0Los Angeles<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0announce best actor in a comedy series.<\/span><\/p>\n

As he appeared on stage, Colbert was met with loud applause from the audience as they rose to their feet.<\/p>\n

The audience rose to give Colbert a standing ovation as he accepted the award<\/p>\n

\u2018Is anyone hiring? Because I\u2019ve got 200 very qualified candidates here tonight who will be available in June,\u2019 he said at the time, referring to all of his cast and crew members.<\/p>\n

Colbert then took out a headshot from when he was much younger, saying: \u2018I haven\u2019t had a chance to update my headshot in a bit, but I think it still works. I think I\u2019m in there somewhere.<\/p>\n

\u2018I only have one,\u2019 he continued, before asking Harrison Ford if he could get the picture to renowned producer Steven Spielberg.<\/p>\n

Colbert quickly ran off the stage and onto the main floor of the theater to shake hands with the Indiana Jones star \u2013 who retrieved the resume.<\/p>\n

Prior to the show, the late night host expressed his desire to win an award for his team before his program comes to an end in May.<\/p>\n

\u2018The people who do the show every day teach me what it\u2019s like to be a professional and I would be very grateful if we could win it for them because they deserve all the recognition they can get,\u2019 he told E! News\u2019 Live from E! red carpet coverage.<\/p>\n

\u2018I get all the applause and I get all the fame \u2013 and I\u2019m fine with that,\u2019 he joked. \u2018But I also want them to get a little recognition.\u2019<\/p>\n

He also told the outlet: \u2018We\u2019ve got nine more months of the show and we\u2019re going to have a really good time doing it.\u2019<\/p>\n

CBS had announced it was canceling the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in mid-July \u2013\u00a0just days after the host\u00a0blasted the network\u2019s $16 million settlement<\/a><\/span>\u00a0with President Donald\u00a0Trump<\/a><\/span>\u00a0as a \u2018big fat bribe.\u2019<\/p>\n

The president had accused the network of falsely editing an interview with then-presidential candidate\u00a0Kamala Harris<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Although the network didn\u2019t admit to any journalistic wrongdoing, the massive settlement will\u00a0cover Trump\u2019s legal fees and his future presidential library.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Paramount also agreed to\u00a0release unedited transcripts<\/a><\/span>\u00a0of 60 Minutes interviews with presidential candidates.<\/p>\n

Days after the settlement was reached, Colbert\u00a0said on his program that he was \u2018offended\u2019 by the actions of his employer.<\/p>\n

He called the lawsuit Trump brought against CBS News a \u2018nuisance\u2019 and claiming that the network\u2019s parent company, Paramount,\u00a0could\u2019ve \u2018easily fought it\u2019 \u2013 citing the company\u2019s own words calling Trump\u2019s allegations \u2018completely without merit.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018And keep in mind Paramount produced Transformers: Rise of the Beast. They know \u201ccompletely without merit,\u201d\u2018 Colbert joked, poking fun at the Paramount film that\u00a0bombed at the box office<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

He then cited a phony statement, joking that the network said, \u2018You may take our money, but you will never take our dignity.<\/p>\n

\u2018You may, however, purchase our dignity for the low, low, price of $16 million. We need the cash.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was canceled days after the host blasted the network\u2019s settlement with President Donald Trump<\/p>\n

The comedian went on to argue that the settlement was a \u2018big, fat, bribe,\u2019 in light of the company\u2019s\u00a0$8.4billion\u00a0merger with Skydance<\/a><\/span>, which will need approval from the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

The late night host also cited an article from\u00a0Puck<\/a>, that claimed the merger could \u2018put pressure\u2019 on him to ease up on Trump criticisms.<\/p>\n

The owner of Skydance, David Ellison, has expressed his desire to have a more neutral tone on politics.<\/p>\n

His father, Larry Ellison,\u00a0is also a major Trump supporter who\u00a0joined the president at the White House in January<\/a><\/span>\u00a0for the unveiling of a project called Stargate.\u00a0It is now believed the elder Ellison is providing the $8billion for the CBS deal, according to the\u00a0New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yet network executives insisted that the decision to cancel the show was\u00a0\u2018purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018It is not related in any way to the show\u2019s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,\u2019 they said at the time, noting that they consider Colbert \u2018irreplaceable and will retire the Late Show franchise\u2019 in May.<\/p>\n

\u2018We are proud that Stephen called CBS home,\u2019 the network executives said.<\/p>\n
