According to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/crime\/\">investigators<\/a>, the situation escalated when the pair reportedly returned to admire their handiwork, causing even more damage and setting off the fire alarm in the process. Deputies responding to the alarm arrived to find the library\u2019s media center completely ransacked and in ruins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOvernight, deputies responded to a fire alarm at Friendship Elementary School in Deltona. Once on scene, they found a glass door had been shattered and the media center had been vandalized,\u201d police shared on social media, alongside body cam footage from one of the officers at the scene.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-images-of-wrecked-property\">Images of wrecked property<\/h2>\n<p>Photos released by the Volusia Sheriff\u2019s Office revealed the full extent of the destruction, with books scattered across the floor, furniture smashed, and property wrecked.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also shared surveillance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/VolusiaSheriff\/videos\/1328196315532154\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">footage<\/a> showing two suspects entering the library. In the video, one boy can be seen wearing a Monster Energy cap, while both had their faces covered in an attempt to conceal their identities.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-moms-turned-them-in\">\u2018Moms turned them in\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>After the images were posted online, tips quickly poured in \u2013 but it was the boys\u2019 own mothers who provided the crucial leads, recognizing their children and making the difficult decision to alert authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir moms turned them in,\u201d Volusia Sheriff\u2019s Office announced in a Sept. 15 Facebook post that included mugshots of 12-year-old Felix Cohen Romero and 13-year-old Bentley Ryan Wehrly.<\/p>\n<div class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\" id=\"newsner-1101211384\">\n<p><script class=\"wp-rocket-ignore\"><![CDATA[\n\tyieldWrapper.cmd.push(function() {\n\t\tyieldWrapper.defineSlot({\n\t\t\tid: \"ad-modul_intext_176453_1\",\n\t\t\tadType: 'intext',\n\t\t\ttargeting: {\n\t\t\t\tpagePath: '\/news\/florida-moms-call-cops-on-sons-after-50k-school-damage\/',pageTitle: 'Florida moms call cops on sons after $50K school damage',pageCategory: 'News',pageLanguage: 'en_US',pageAttributes: [\"cops\", \"Florida\", \"sons\"],pageType: 'post',\t\t\t}\n\t\t});\n\t});\n]]><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cAfter the video posted, we received lots of emails identifying them (thank you all!), as well as contacts from each of the defendants\u2019 mothers. The boys confessed to the incident, which caused at least $50,000 in damage to the media center. They broke into the school during the daytime hours, then returned later in the evening to look at the damage and cause more.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-criminal-charges\">Criminal charges<\/h2>\n<p>Each boy now faces a slate of criminal charges, including two counts of burglary, two counts of trespassing on school grounds, criminal mischief and theft.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FVolusiaSheriff%2Fvideos%2F1328196315532154%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Authorities have not yet confirmed how the case will proceed through the juvenile justice system, but the seriousness of the damage means both could be facing significant legal consequences.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-moms-praised\">Moms praised<\/h2>\n<p>The shocking case has sparked widespread reaction online, particularly because the boys\u2019 own mothers were the ones who held them accountable. Many praised the women for making what must have been an incredibly difficult choice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreat job moms!!! I\u2019m sure that was incredibly hard, but it was the right thing to do. Helping them learn about consequences is the hardest part of being a parent,\u201d one person wrote in the comment section of the Facebook post.<\/p>\n<p>A second wrote, \u201cThank you moms for seeing your child needs to see the world doesn\u2019t revolve around them and there [are] consequences to their actions!
