FRISCO, Texas (WOAI) — The mother of a Frisco teenager accused of fatally stabbing another teen at a track meet has spoken out, saying her family has faced threats and harassment since her son’s arrest.

Seventeen-year-old Karmelo Anthony is accused of stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf to death earlier this month following a fight in the stands at a Frisco ISD track meet.

Investigators reported that an argument between Anthony and Metcalf escalated, with Metcalf either grabbing or pushing Anthony, leading Anthony to allegedly pull out a knife and stab Metcalf.

Karmelo’s mother, Kala Hayes, addressed the public for the first time regarding the incident, urging people to stop attacking her family.

“In the wake of this tragic incident, our family has been under attack. Whatever you think of what happened between Karmelo and the Metcalf boy, my husband and our three young children and I didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed and lied about. The lies and false accusations that have been said about us, especially over the past week have been overwhelming,” said Hayes.

The press conference was briefly delayed when Austin Metcalf’s father appeared and was escorted out by police.
